The Sydney Cove team has comprehensive knowledge of Early Childhood development. We have created learning environments that suit each stage of your child’s development from our Nursery Program through to our Pre-School Advanced School Readiness Program. We have a commitment to a multi-cultural and anti-biased environment for all children and families. Children with special needs will be involved in all aspects of the daily routine.
At Sydney Cove we maintain individual records of your child’s interests, strengths and development including written observations, photos and examples of work. All information about individuals is kept confidential at the Centre.
6 weeks - 2 years Nursery and Toddler Programs
The focus of our babies program is gently introducing babies to the care of others in a loving environment following the routines that you have established at home. We introduce babies to early stage social, physical and intellectual skills at their own pace. We do this through fun filled stimulus with lots of cuddles!
As children develop at their own pace, Sydney Cove introduces more opportunities to develop their full range of skills in a fun and nurturing environment. Through play your child will develop early friendships and co-operation skills. Our teams’ guidance within small group games teaches your child to listen to and follow verbal directions. Your child will be given opportunity to develop gross motor skills in our extensive sea-theme outdoor environment. Our program also promotes vocabulary growth through songs, stories, puppet shows and fun games and your child will be encouraged to begin to use words to communicate needs and wants, and to recognise and name familiar objects.
2 – 3 years Junior Preschool Program
Toddlers are naturally very curious. We create opportunity for them to learn through independent exploration of our planned learning environment. Our classroom provides for learning opportunities in construction and puzzles to stimulate mathematical thinking, role playing to foster an understanding of our community, art to support early writing skills, and a book corner to encourage a love of reading.
Our team’s thoughtful interaction during play balances your child’s need for playing autonomously and wanting to be close to a trusted adult. Your child during this development period will actively acquire language through our playful reading of books, singing and teacher guidance.
All children will rest and enjoy meals as scheduled in the room routine and with assistance will gain confidence and experience in self help skills including feeding him/her self, toileting, dressing and decision making.
3 – 5 years Pre-School Program
(Advanced School Readiness) Program Sydney Cove’s Advanced School Readiness Program was designed by a Primary School Principal with the aim
of giving children all of the social, physical and intellectual skills required to easily join their respective schools in the coming years. We develop problem solving skills, build on social skills, introduce structured literacy skills (talking, listening, reading and writing), and develop foundation numeracy skills. Your child will be encouraged to take responsibility for their belongings, to help care for their classroom, to ask for assistance when required, and to independently deal with conflict with their peers.
The Advanced School Readiness Program draws on international best practices in Early Childhood Development and is differentiated from most child care centres through the breadth and depth of its school focused programming. Our qualified educators use observations, anecdotal records and input from families to develop individual planning for your child. We work with you in preparing your child for the transition to school and will give you guidance and advice as you and your child reach this new milestone.
